Taxed and Tested
A third of the way around the earth, from Europe to Mongolia via a plethora of countries most people haven't heard of in a car designed for old ladies.

On July 18th 2009 Amy, Colin, Gurpal and Olly set off on a 15,000 mile rally from Goodwood House, Sussex to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia on the infamous Mongol Rally, in a car suitable for your gran.

Border problems, bandits, bribes, baked beans and backgammon. And that's just where there are roads. God help us when we get out of europe. The event has no set route and no support. We've put our heads together and picked a path which goes through:

  • France
  • Belgium
  • Germany
  • The Czech Republic
  • Slovakia
  • Hungary
  • Serbia
  • Bulgaria
  • Turkey
  • Iran
  • Turkmenistan
  • Uzbekistan
  • Kazakhstan
  • Russia
  • Mongolia
...ideally in that order.

What can I say? I'm typing this blog on my phone whilst sitting in a hotel room in Ulan Batar. After 4 and a bit weeks of hard work and good times we have made the finish line. We are all very tired (it's 7.00 a.m. And we haven't slept) but happy. Mongolia was an amazing land of contrasts and beauty. People are great- would invite us in to their ger for yak milk tea, wearing traditional Mongolian costume and riding around on horses. We would then spot huge satellite dish attached to the ger and Toyota Landcruiser around the back! Must eat and sleep, looking forward to coming home.
