You cannot imagine how difficult it is to plan this adventure when you don't live in the same place...but we are doing it!

We have finally outlined our drive and we are are now waiting in limbo for our visas to be secured!  We had a little coming to god moment upon realizing that I did not have enough passport pages to obtain all the necessary visa and it apparently takes the same amount of time to get add'l pages as it does to get a new passport, eekk.  Luckily, Mollie has a friend who works for a visa agency so we are in great hands!  We are so surprised at the speed of the process. At the moment, we've secured China but we've been waiting for Russia for a few days (rumour has it it can take anywhere from 4-20 days) and then there is Kazakhstan.  Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Our pre-determined route:
*If you have ever been lucky enough to hear any tales of our past adventures you will know that nothing has ever gone to plan so we embrace this challenge and know that this is just an outline...we welcome this tribulation and as always are anxious to defy whatever is thrown our way.
London, UK
France (for a hot second)
Belgium
Germany
Czech Republic
to be determined: Poland, Slovakia, etc
Moldova
Ukraine
Russia (visiting Moscow)
Kazakhstan (essentially driving the entire east, south and west border)
Russia (again!!!)
Mongolia
then China

Oh and the best news...Mollie passed her "court appointed" online driving test so now she can renew her license and get an int'l permit...

We are still doing lots of research about our route, trying to determine the exact dates of the visas (for some odd reason they are not so flexible with dates at borders) and talking to everyone and anyone about the trip.

We continue to look for sponsorship, donations and your continued support.

A few statistics we thought were interesting....

Facts and Figures from the 2005 rally
43 cars left London.
27 cars reached Mongolia.
14 cars reached the finish in Ulaanbaatar.
2 teams were robbed at knife point.
1 car snapped in half.
3 engines fell completely out of the cars.
1 team was held for 5 days in no-mans land.
1 team cycled 200km to get to the finish when their car gave in.
100's of tyres were blown.
1 team got engaged.
1 team found a 10ft deep pot hole.
1 team found a 25 tonne crane rolled by a pot hole.
3 teams attended weddings
1 team had to reverse up a mountain after losing all bar one forward gear
1 person spent 24 hours in a Kazakh jail charged with 5 crimes against the state.
1 person was stoned by a Mongolian nomad (who he then shot at with a gun).
1 team was rammed off the road after an argument over water melons.
1 person spent a day in a Turkish hospital.
3 people were banned from Turkmenistan for a year.
As a result of an incident with a cow 1 person was detained by police
in Azerbaijan and threatened with a beating from a dwarf.
2 cars flipped over in Mongolia.

3 teams were chased by armed bandits.

0 teams died

Most important is the last stat...

We will keep updating everyone so continue to check back...

Team SweaTeas is comprised of two southern belles who always have an itch for another adventure. We are hoping to have an amazing time in a few countries we never thought we would find ourselves visiting much less driving through.

You are probably wondering exactly what is the Mongol Rally and what have these two gotten themselves into?

The Mongol Rally is a charity adventure "race", not a holiday, organized by the Adventurists. The race is supposedly a ton of fun, but the primary point is to raise money for some fantastic charity organizations. The official charity that we hope to raise a minimum of £1000 for is Mercy Corps Mongolia.

Teams start on July 18th in London, Madrid, or Milan, and the finish line is in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Our team will be starting from Hyde Park in London. To make the experience more adventurous, teams may only use 1 liter engine vehicles. (I just recently learned about this – it doesn't mean that your gas tank holds one liter of gas but it has to do with the actual displacement – whew that was a lot of stopping before we even got started!)

Distance: 8,000-10,000 miles depending on the route

Time: 3-4 weeks or more depending where we go - possible countries we may visit along the way: France, Belgium, Germany Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, Belarus, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia

So again - this whole adventure is to raise massive amounts of money for charity so please make a donation to our honorable cause at http://www.firstgiving.com/sweeteas. For those of you who prefer to participate – don't you worry there will be many opportunities to join in the fun…

Over the coming weeks and months we will be updating this site with our preparation progress and plans for any media events that we will be partaking in. Then when Launch Day (July 18th) finally arrives the site will be updated with news of our journey and a blog covering the trip will be available.

If you would like more information about the journey or if you can help in any way, please don't hesitate to contact us at sweeteasmongolrally@gmail.com

Description

Its the Super Bowl...with two teams I don't really care for...sooo lets watch the game together anyways and help raise some money for Jennifer Crawford's rally race to Mongolia.http://mongolrally09.theadventurists.com/sweeteas

Its going to be a crazy trip for her team, so lets show her some support!

I will provide a Keg, some snacks, and of course the Super Bowl in HD...donations in support of the Jen's Mongol Rally Race team would be greatly appreciated. She's basically driving from London to Mongolia in a 1.5 liter engine car...I'm sure you can imagine she'll need some monetary and emotional support!
